    Q.     Who provides my water?

The Queanbeyan Palerang Regional Council (QPRC) provides water (and sewerage) services to Sunrise Apartments.

    Q.     Do I have to pay for the water?

QPRC charges for water use but does not have a separate water access charge for each Sunrise Apartment.

Owners are responsible for paying for all water used by the Apartment they own.  Subject to Tenancy Agreements, tenants may be required to pay for their water usage.

    Q.     How frequently is water usage invoiced?

    Quarterly.

    Q.     Where is my Water Meter?

QPRC as part of their development approval required the installation of remote meter reading equipment in each apartment.  This allows the meter reader to walk around the complex and collect readings which are transmitted to their equipment.

Meters are located normally in a lower level kitchen cupboard or un der the laundry tub.

    Q.     How do I turn off my water?

A stop valve should be located adjacent to the water meter in each apartment.  Each apartment is able to have its water supply turned off without affecting other units; however, in the unlikely event water is leaking from the supply side of the water meter it may be necessary to turn off water to the complex.  This should only be done by a suitably qualified and licensed plumber.

Some taps in some apartments are also able to be separately isolated - generally these are sink taps and the toilet cistern.

    Q.     Do the Water Meters work?

YES in terms of measuring water usage.

SOMETIMES with respect to remote readings.  Specifically, the QPRC has been in dispute with the original supplier since the complex was completed in 2008.  Basically, they are unable to collect readings from some meters some times.  In July 2021 the QPRC advised that it was in the testing phase for new radio signal based water meters and expected to roll-out around 20 meters to various apartments in Sunrise.  The changeover is free of charge to Owners.

Notwithstanding, the QPRC will occasionally write to an Owner advising that they have not been able to access the meter for a reading and insisting that under legislation they must do so.  Owners need to make their own decision on this matter; however, if your meter has noot been changed it is suggested that the Water Billing Team at QPRC be contacted and a changeover requested.
